In this day and age, communication technology has become rampant and there are a variety of devices

such as smartphones, tablets and desktops that people can use to communicate with others. Nevertheless,there are numerous disadvantages that may or may not outweigh the advantages, which will be discussed.

As for the merits of communication technology, it is far more convenient nowadays to reach people in faraway places by simply sending a text or voice message and even start a video chat with them. This all occurs instantaneously for people from one side of the world communicating with others from other parts of the globe. Furthermore, it is hugely advantageous for people to use communication technology as the cost is quite low and it requires very low startup fees.

With respect to the demerits of communication technology, the potential for users to become addicted is quite rampant. Overuse of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices is widespread, leading to a host of mental and physical health issues. Students are becoming nearsighted at rates never seen before, people are unable to communicate face-to-face because they only know how to speak through screens and the quality of human relationships is deteriorating. Additionally, parents are unable to hold meaningful conversations with their kids since their eyes are fixated on their devices most of the time.

All in all, it is difficult to say whether the disadvantages of communication technology outweigh the advantages. It has to be decided upon by each individual. However, if the technology is used properly and in a way that focuses on mental and physical health, the advantages certainly outweigh the disadvantages.
